Footscray is a fantastic place to shop, meet people and hang out. But why is there so much awful tagging everywhere?! While commissioned street art can add amenity to a neighbourhood, mindless and illegible scribbles cheapen the experience. Maribyrnong Council is taking action with the Maribyrnong Streetsmart campaign, designed to provide residents and traders with information and resources to control this unwanted doodling.
Blue Vapours developed the project identity with a focus on friendliness, inclusiveness and teamwork. The graphics are location specific in their referencing architectural styles and popular cuisines, and the colour palette is poppy and convivial.
See? Removing graffiti doesn’t have to be boring. Especially when your cleaning products can be obtained at a discount, thanks to local paint suppliers. These illustrations are designed to convey a cheerful, neighbourly message to a demographic in which many have English as a second or third language.
